On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in extensive discussions with Argentine President Javier Milei in Buenos Aires, aiming to enhance bilateral collaboration across various sectors, including critical minerals, trade, investment, and energy.
Modi's visit to Buenos Aires marks the third stop on his five-nation tour, having arrived on Friday.
During their discussions, both leaders concentrated on strengthening India-Argentina relations in vital areas such as trade, investment, energy, agriculture, and critical minerals.
The partnership between the two nations was elevated to a strategic level following the visit of former Argentine President Mauricio Macri to India in February 2019.
Cooperation between India and Argentina spans several significant sectors, including trade, defense, critical minerals, oil and gas, nuclear energy, agriculture, culture, and technology.
Both countries have established substantial collaboration in mineral resources, particularly lithium, which is essential for India's transition to green energy.
An agreement for cooperation in mineral resources was signed in August 2022, with the inaugural meeting of the joint working group taking place in January.
Bilateral trade between India and Argentina has seen remarkable growth, more than doubling from 2019 to 2022, reaching a peak of $6.4 billion in 2022.
In both 2021 and 2022, India ranked as Argentina's fourth-largest trading partner.
By 2024, the total annual trade between the two nations was recorded at $5.23 billion, making India Argentina's fifth-largest trading partner and export destination.
