What Did Pakistan's President Reveal About India's Operation Sindoor?
Zardari's Bold Statements on Military Preparedness
Lahore: Asif Ali Zardari, the President of Pakistan, disclosed that he was advised to seek refuge in a bunker during India's Operation Sindoor, which commenced in May this year.
This revelation came during a speech in Larkana, Sindh, commemorating the 18th death anniversary of his late wife, Benazir Bhutto, who was tragically assassinated in a 2007 attack.
Zardari recounted, "My Military Secretary informed me, 'Sir, the war has begun.' I had predicted this conflict four days prior. He suggested we retreat to a bunker for safety, but I responded, 'If martyrdom is destined, it will find me here. Leaders do not perish in bunkers; they fall on the battlefield.'"
Operation Sindoor was initiated by India on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, following an attack in Pahalgam that resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. This operation led to four days of fierce confrontations between the two nations, concluding with an agreement to cease hostilities on May 10.
Zardari emphasized Pakistan's commitment to peace while asserting its readiness to defend itself, highlighting what he termed Pakistan's 'decisive stance' during the recent conflict.
He also commended Army Chief Asim Munir for delivering a 'fitting response to India' during the military engagement in May.
The leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) claimed that the international community is increasingly recognizing Pakistan's position, even mentioning that former US President Donald Trump had praised Munir.
Additionally, Zardari asserted that it was the PPP that elevated Munir to the rank of Field Marshal, stating, 'We, the PPP, made Gen Munir Field Marshal.'
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Zardari's son and the chairman of the PPP, also addressed the gathering.
