What Did Mahua Moitra Say That Sparked Outrage Among BJP Leaders?
Controversy Erupts Over Mahua Moitra's Remarks
Kolkata: Amit Malviya, a prominent BJP figure, criticized Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra for her alleged anti-Hindu and casteist comments directed at Scheduled Caste communities in West Bengal.
Malviya shared a video from Moitra's speech on August 28, where she reportedly made controversial statements during a Trinamool workers' meeting in Karimpur Block-2. He called for her immediate resignation from Parliament.
In his post, Malviya highlighted Moitra's remarks, which he deemed shocking and disgraceful, particularly targeting the Namasudra community. She was quoted saying, 'All year you’re Trinamooli, and during elections Sanatani?', implying that one cannot support both the Trinamool party and identify as a Hindu.
The video features Moitra discussing how individuals from SC, Namasudra, and Matua communities benefit from the welfare initiatives of Mamata Banerjee's administration, yet still vote for the BJP. She claimed that in SC-majority areas, 85 out of 100 votes typically go to the BJP, despite these communities receiving government support.
Malviya condemned her statements as hate speech, asserting that she insulted SCs, Namasudras, and Matuas, treating government resources as if they belonged solely to the Trinamool party. He also criticized her mockery of the Vaishnav community's beliefs regarding the Kanthi Mala, labeling her comments as anti-Hindu and casteist. He emphasized that such communal rhetoric should not be tolerated.
He urged the Namasudra, SC, and Matua communities to demand Moitra's resignation and to hold her accountable for her remarks.
Recently, a BJP member in West Bengal lodged a complaint against Moitra at the Kotwali Police Station in Nadia district, citing her derogatory comments about Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
