Strengthening Ties: EAM Jaishankar Meets South Korean Delegation
New Delhi: On Thursday, India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar engaged with a delegation of Special Envoys from South Korea, led by former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, representing President Lee Jae Myung.
The discussions revolved around enhancing collaboration in various sectors, including economy, technology, defense, and maritime security, while also focusing on increasing people-to-people interactions. India expressed its commitment to actively collaborate with the new South Korean administration to strengthen the Special Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
EAM Jaishankar shared on X, "I was pleased to meet the delegation of Special Envoys from RoK President Lee Jae Myung, led by former PM Kim Boo-kyum, this morning in Delhi. We discussed cooperation in economic, technological, defense, and maritime sectors, as well as expanding people-to-people exchanges. India is eager to engage with the new administration and enhance our Special Strategic Partnership."
The partnership between India and South Korea was initiated in 2010 and was upgraded to a 'Special Strategic Partnership' in 2015 during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Seoul.
Recently, President Lee Jae Myung appointed special envoys to India, the European Union, France, and the United Kingdom as part of a broader diplomatic initiative. This move aims to bolster summit diplomacy by sending envoys who can articulate Lee's state affairs policy and promote friendly exchanges.
A presidential spokesperson indicated that the government intends to appoint envoys capable of effectively communicating the new administration's governing philosophy and foreign policy objectives.
Earlier that day, EAM Jaishankar also had a significant meeting with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations of the Holy See, in New Delhi. They discussed the importance of faith and the role of dialogue and diplomacy in conflict resolution.
EAM Jaishankar remarked on X, "It was a pleasure to meet Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher. We had a fruitful conversation about the significance of faith and the necessity of dialogue and diplomacy in addressing conflicts."
