Allegations of Bribery in Murshidabad Elections

Murshidabad: The leader of the Aam Janata Unnayan Party, Humayun Kabir, made serious allegations on Thursday, claiming that the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has been bribing several candidates from his party to prevent them from participating in the elections.

After casting his vote early in the day, Kabir faced protests from TMC supporters who shouted 'go back' as he arrived at a polling booth in Shibnagar village, located in the Naoda assembly constituency of Murshidabad.

Local TMC leaders led the protesters, who surrounded Kabir's vehicle, accusing him of being a 'BJP agent'. This demonstration created a tense atmosphere around the polling station.

Kabir, who serves as an MLA for Bharatpur in Murshidabad and is now running for re-election with his own party, was expelled from the TMC last December after he suggested building a mosque similar to the Babri Masjid.

Activists from AJUP claimed that TMC members physically assaulted one of their booth-level presidents at his residence.

Officials reported that central forces present at the location intervened to restore order.

Earlier that day, Kabir criticized TMC leader Mamata Banerjee for allegedly engaging in extensive appeasement of Hindu voters.

"Mamata Banerjee has bought off 27 of our candidates from various constituencies in Bengal, offering them between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 30 lakh. I initially had 142 candidates but now only have 115 left to contest," he stated.

Kabir asserted that Banerjee no longer requires the support of Muslim voters, claiming she has invested significantly in temple construction and provided funds to Hindu religious leaders to sway voter sentiment.

When asked about the BJP's chances in the elections, Kabir remarked, "After the results are announced on May 4, you will notice that Amit Shah will no longer be visiting the state."
