What Did EAM Jaishankar Discuss with Australia’s Penny Wong? Insights on West Asia Conflict Revealed!
EAM Jaishankar Engages in Key Discussions with Australian Counterpart
New Delhi: On Friday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar connected via phone with his Australian counterpart, Penny Wong, to deliberate on the escalating conflict in West Asia and various Indo-Pacific matters.
Post-discussion, Jaishankar shared on his X account, expressing, “I was very pleased to converse with my Australian counterpart Penny Wong. We exchanged our evaluations regarding the ongoing conflict in West Asia and also touched upon Indo-Pacific issues.”
These discussions come in light of the recent turmoil in West Asia, which intensified after the US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, resulting in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking military officials. In retaliation, Iran initiated drone and missile strikes aimed at US and Israeli installations, as well as allied forces in the region.
In recent days, Jaishankar has also engaged with foreign ministers from various nations, including Russia, Iran, France, and Oman, as India maintains communication with regional governments and key partners amidst the heightened security concerns in West Asia.
On Thursday, Jaishankar had a phone conversation with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, where they discussed the ongoing conflict in West Asia and its broader implications.
Jaishankar noted on X, “I had a telecon with FM Gideon Saar of Israel this evening. We exchanged views on the ongoing West Asia conflict and its numerous repercussions.”
Additionally, Jaishankar met with Reem Al Hashimy, the UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, on Thursday to discuss the latest updates regarding the West Asia conflict.
During their meeting, Jaishankar expressed gratitude to the UAE Government for its support of the Indian community.
He stated, “It was a pleasure to meet UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy this afternoon. I thanked the UAE Government for its care of the Indian community and discussed the latest developments related to the conflict in West Asia.”
On March 16, Jaishankar also met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Belgium, where they discussed the situations in West Asia and Ukraine.
He acknowledged von der Leyen's valuable insights on current global issues, stating, “It was a pleasure to meet European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen this afternoon. Her successful State Visit to India this January signifies a pivotal moment in our relationship, and we are actively following up on it. I appreciate her insights on contemporary global developments.”
