INS Sunayna's Visit to Colombo

The Indian Naval Ship Sunayna has docked at Colombo for a three-day stay, part of its operational mission in the Indian Ocean Region. This visit, which commenced on Friday, is aligned with the Indian Ocean Ship - Security and Growth for All in the Region (IOS SAGAR) initiative, as reported by the Sri Lanka Navy.

The IOS SAGAR initiative aims to foster ongoing collaboration among nations in the Indian Ocean Region, according to the Indian Navy. The deployment includes INS Sunayna, which is manned by a diverse crew comprising personnel from India and 16 allied nations.

This marks the seventh port call for IOS SAGAR during its second deployment phase, which began in April 2026 from Mumbai. The multinational crew, including members from Sri Lanka, will engage in various professional and cultural activities, including media interactions to discuss the goals of their 2026 mission, as stated by the Indian Ministry of Defence.

During its stay, the ship will be accessible to visitors, with expected attendance from Sri Lankan Navy personnel, school children, and members of the Indian community in Colombo.

Before leaving on May 18, the crew will conduct a joint passage exercise (PASSEX) with the Sri Lankan Navy. This visit underscores the Indian Navy's commitment to fostering friendships and cooperation in the region.

The presence of IOS SAGAR in Colombo exemplifies India's Neighbourhood First policy and its dedication to promoting peace, stability, and collective maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region, as highlighted by the Indian Ministry of Defence.
