What Brings a Senior Indian Official to Nepal? Insights into Election Preparations and Development Projects
Indian Official's Visit to Nepal
Kathmandu: On Sunday, a high-ranking official from the Indian government arrived in Nepal to evaluate the country's election preparations and the status of development projects funded by India, according to local officials.
Munu Mahawar, who serves as the Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, is set to engage in a series of important meetings throughout his four-day stay, as reported by officials from the foreign ministry.
During his visit, he is anticipated to meet with Prime Minister Sushila Karki, along with Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal, Commerce Minister Anil Kumar Sinha, and Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal on Tuesday.
The discussions in Kathmandu will center around India's ongoing support for the elections scheduled for March 5, as well as an evaluation of the progress made on various India-funded development initiatives in Nepal.
In addition to his meetings with Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, Mahawar plans to visit Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, to participate in an official event. He will also inspect the integrated check post in Bhairahawa, which was built with India's assistance.
This visit marks Mahawar as the highest-ranking Indian official to travel to Nepal following the Gen Z uprising in September, which resulted in the removal of Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli's government.
