What Awaits Modi in Indonesia? A Deep Dive into His Strategic Tour!
Modi's Strategic Visit to Indonesia
Jakarta: On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Indonesia, marking the beginning of his three-nation tour designed to enhance India's Act East Policy, the MAHASAGAR Vision, and its dedication to a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
In a notable gesture, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto personally welcomed Modi at the airport, accompanied by four ministers who participated in a traditional ceremonial reception and a Guard of Honour.
Expressing his gratitude, Modi shared on social media, "Landed in Jakarta. I’m touched by President Prabowo Subianto’s gesture of welcoming me at the airport."
This visit is significant as it is Modi's first bilateral engagement with Indonesia since the two nations upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018.
Modi remarked, "In 2018, we elevated our relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which has benefitted our people."
He plans to engage in discussions with President Subianto to further enhance this partnership across various sectors.
Additionally, Modi mentioned, "President Prabowo and I will visit the Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta, which will strengthen our cultural ties. I also look forward to meeting the Indian community during my stay in Indonesia."
The Prambanan Temple, located about 17 kilometers northeast of Yogyakarta, is recognized as Indonesia's largest Hindu temple.
Before departing from Delhi, Modi stated that his journey to Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand aims to bolster India's Act East Policy and MAHASAGAR Vision, as well as promote a free and open Indo-Pacific.
MAHASAGAR, which stands for Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security Across the Regions, represents India's vision for security and growth across all regions.
This visit follows President Prabowo's state visit to India as the chief guest during the Republic Day celebrations in January 2025.
Modi emphasized, "India and Indonesia share strong civilizational and people-to-people ties, and my visit will further deepen all aspects of our multifaceted partnership."
Following his time in Indonesia, Modi will head to Melbourne at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, with the final stop in Auckland at the invitation of New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.
