Warm Reception for PM Modi in Amman

In Amman, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted enthusiastically by the Indian community on Monday. As he arrived at his hotel, supporters waved Indian flags and chanted slogans like 'Modi Modi' and 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'.

PM Modi took the time to interact with the children present and enjoyed a cultural performance upon his arrival.

Expressing his gratitude, PM Modi shared on X, "I am deeply moved by the warm reception from the Indian community in Amman. Their pride in India's achievements and cultural ties highlight the strong bond between India and its diaspora. I appreciate the diaspora's role in enhancing India-Jordan relations."

He also conveyed his optimism that this visit would strengthen the ties between the two nations. Upon landing, he thanked Jordan's Prime Minister Jafar Hassan for the warm welcome he received at the airport.

In a notable gesture, Jordan's Prime Minister Jafar Hassan personally welcomed PM Modi at the airport during his two-day visit, which was extended at the invitation of King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein. This marks the first full bilateral visit to Jordan in 37 years.

During his stay, PM Modi is set to engage in discussions with King Abdullah, focusing on the comprehensive relationship between India and Jordan, as well as regional matters.

This visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, providing a platform to enhance bilateral cooperation, explore new collaborative opportunities, and reaffirm commitments to regional peace and stability.

PM Modi stated, "This historic visit will commemorate 75 years of diplomatic ties between our countries. I look forward to in-depth discussions with His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, and engagements with Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. I will also meet the vibrant Indian community that has significantly contributed to India-Jordan relations."

This trip is PM Modi's first comprehensive bilateral visit to Jordan; he previously transited through the country in February 2018 on his way to Palestine.

Despite being a transit visit, he received exceptional hospitality from the King, making it memorable. The current visit, occurring after 37 years, underscores the warm and friendly relations between India and Jordan, characterized by mutual trust and goodwill across various sectors, including political, economic, and defense ties.

Neena Malhotra, Secretary (South) of the Ministry of External Affairs, noted that the relationship is marked by strong leadership understanding. Since the last visit of His Majesty in 2018, the two leaders have met four times, the latest being during the G7 Summit in Italy in June 2024.

They maintain regular communication, including a recent conversation in April 2025 following the tragic Pahalgam terror attacks, where His Majesty condemned the violence and reiterated support for India's fight against terrorism. Both nations have collaborated on counter-terrorism initiatives, including India's involvement in the Aqaba process.
