West Indies Cricket Team Arrives in India for ODI Series Against India
West Indies Team Arrival
On Wednesday morning, the West Indies cricket team touched down at Thiruvananthapuram airport in preparation for their first One Day International (ODI) against India. This match is set to take place at the Greenfield International Stadium on September 27, with the team captained by Shai Hope. The opening game of the three-match ODI series will commence at 2 PM IST.
ODI Series Schedule
The second ODI is scheduled for Guwahati on September 30, followed by the third match in New Chandigarh on October 3. Cricket West Indies has revealed the squads for both the three ODIs and five T20Is during their tour of India, which will span from September 27 to October 18 across eight different cities.
Updates on West Indies Squad
John Campbell makes a return to the ODI lineup after missing the last two matches against New Zealand due to a hamstring injury. Jewel Andrew has been brought in to replace Ackeem Auguste, who is still recovering from surgery performed in August. Shimron Hetmyer, who played in the final two ODIs against New Zealand, will join the squad for the T20I series after receiving an extended recovery period following the Caribbean Premier League.
World Cup Qualification Context
The initial two ODIs against India will conclude the qualification cycle for the ICC Men’s 50-over World Cup. However, regardless of the outcomes, the West Indies will not be able to surpass their closest competitors in the standings and will need to participate in the qualification tournament scheduled for early next year.

On the Indian side, Shubman Gill will take on the captaincy role, with KL Rahul serving as vice-captain. The squad includes notable players such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, providing India a chance to evaluate their players as they gear up for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj are also back in the ODI setup, while Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi and Punjab all-rounder Naman Dhir have received their first ODI call-ups.
