BJP's Inaugural Budget in West Bengal
On Monday, Suvendu Adhikari praised the inaugural budget of the BJP government in West Bengal, describing it as an effort to restore the state's lost culture and dignity. The state's finance minister, Swapna Dasgupta, unveiled the first budget of the BJP administration, which allocates a total of ₹4,38,775.29 crores (net) for the fiscal year 2026-2027. During a press conference in Kolkata following the budget announcement, Adhikari emphasized that providing a fear-free environment for citizens has been a top priority for the government.
Adhikari stated that this budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 was presented in the state assembly. He highlighted that it aims to revive West Bengal's lost culture and respect. The budget prioritizes security, ensuring a fear-free atmosphere for citizens, and revitalizing cultural heritage.
Education and agriculture have also been given significant attention. The budget emphasizes strengthening the constitution, curbing syndicates and extortion, and creating a conducive environment for crafts and trade. No demographic has been overlooked in this budget. While presenting the budget in the assembly, the state government announced plans for a new greenfield airport near Kalyani. Finance Minister Swapna Dasgupta noted, "Kolkata Airport is experiencing heavy passenger traffic, and a second airport is essential to boost the local economy. The government will identify 1,000-1,500 acres of land near Kolkata for this new greenfield airport."
Additionally, it was announced that a museum will be established to commemorate the 150th anniversary of 'Vande Mataram,' and July 6, the birthday of Syama Prasad Mukherjee, will be declared a public holiday by the state government.
