West Bengal's Economic Outlook Shows Signs of Improvement, Says Chief Minister
West Bengal's Financial Status
Kolkata: The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Shubhendu Adhikari, has made a significant statement regarding the state's economic condition. He indicated that there are gradual signs of improvement in Bengal's financial situation, although it may take time for things to return to normal.
Revenue Collection Increases by Approximately 18%
According to Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari, the state's treasury has seen an increase of about 18% in revenue compared to the previous year. He described this as a crucial indicator of economic recovery.
Adhikari noted that the state has started receiving additional funds after connecting with various central government schemes, which he claims is aiding in strengthening West Bengal's financial position.
Economic Situation Not Fully Resolved
However, the Chief Minister clarified that the economic situation in Bengal is not yet fully resolved. He stated that it could take at least another year for the state to completely overcome the current challenges.
Adhikari attributed the financial mismanagement and revenue losses of previous administrations as contributing factors to the state's economic pressure, emphasizing the need for continuous efforts to improve the situation.
Focus on Stopping Revenue Leakage
The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of addressing the alleged 'leakage' in revenue. He mentioned that the government has achieved some success in this area, but more work remains to be done.
He believes that if revenue losses are fully controlled, the state's income could significantly increase. The government's aim is not only to boost revenue but also to ensure that government expenditures reach the intended beneficiaries.
Identifying Fake Beneficiaries
Shubhendu Adhikari discussed the need to identify alleged fake beneficiaries in welfare schemes. The government asserts that the benefits of these programs should reach genuine and eligible individuals.
He added that the government's responsibility extends beyond merely distributing allowances; it is equally important to focus on development in sectors such as education, health, infrastructure, employment, industry, business, and modern agriculture.
Significant Decision on Social Security Schemes
The state government has announced an increase in allowances for elderly, widow, and disabled beneficiaries from 1,000 rupees to 1,500 rupees. The government is also emphasizing the need to eliminate the old waiting list and to include new eligible individuals in the schemes.
Long Journey Ahead for Improvement
While Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari's statements reflect an increase in the state's revenue collection, he also acknowledged that it will take time to fully strengthen Bengal's financial condition.
The government is now focusing on resources from central schemes, increasing revenue, stopping leakages, and ensuring welfare schemes reach eligible individuals. It will be interesting to see how these measures impact the state's economy in the coming months.
