West Bengal to Launch Self-Enumeration for Census 2027

Kolkata, August 1: The self-enumeration phase for the upcoming Census 2027 in West Bengal is set to commence on Saturday, running for a duration of 15 days until August 15.
Residents of West Bengal can participate in this self-enumeration by visiting the official website at https:/se.census.gov.in, where they will fill out the required information in the designated fields.
Upon successful completion and submission of the self-enumeration form, the website will generate a unique self-enumeration ID, which is necessary for the submission process.
Individuals who complete the self-enumeration must keep their 11-digit ID safe, as it will be required when enumerators come to their homes for verification.
This self-enumeration method is designed to enhance accuracy, allowing individuals to input their own data directly.
Importantly, individuals will not need to upload any supporting documents during the self-enumeration process.
Smita Pandey, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) commissioner and principal census officer, confirmed that these documents will also not be necessary when enumerators visit households later.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari noted that the Census 2027 initiative is starting later in the state due to the previous administration's lack of action.
He stated, “The Union Government had communicated with the former state government in February last year to initiate the process, but there was no response.”
Adhikari criticized the previous government for delaying the census due to political reasons, stating that the former Chief Secretary was waiting for a political consensus.
He added that this census will be conducted digitally, with officials collecting data using mobile applications, which will then upload the information to a central server.
