Kolkata, July 4: In a groundbreaking initiative, the West Bengal Police successfully employed drones to dismantle a suspected human trafficking operation in the Islampur Police District. This operation led to the rescue of 17 minor girls and the apprehension of four alleged traffickers in North Dinajpur district, as reported by officials on Saturday.

During this operation, the police managed to arrest four individuals believed to be involved in human trafficking.

This marks the first instance where the Islampur Police have utilized drone technology for surveillance against human trafficking networks.

According to police reports, a tip-off was received late Friday night regarding the trafficking of several minor girls from Bihar, Assam, and Gujarat, who were allegedly concealed in a restricted area of Champabagh in Islampur.

Following this information, the Islampur police initiated a special operation, employing drones for the first time to monitor the area.

Authorities stated that some suspects attempted to flee upon noticing the drone, but police personnel, who were covertly stationed in the vicinity, managed to detain four of them. Ultimately, 17 minor girls were rescued during this operation.

Rakesh Singh, the Superintendent of Police for Islampur District, informed the media, "This operation represents a significant achievement for the police. Preliminary investigations suggest a connection to a larger human trafficking network. The rescued minors hail from Bihar, Assam, and Gujarat. The arrested individuals will be presented at the Islampur Sub-District Court on Saturday and will be interrogated in police custody to identify the leaders of the trafficking ring. We have arranged for counseling and necessary legal support for the rescued girls."

The police have commenced an investigation into the incident and are actively searching for other members of the trafficking network. Additionally, surveillance efforts along the international border with Bangladesh have been intensified to prevent future occurrences of such crimes.

Authorities are also interviewing the rescued minors to gather more information about the traffickers and their operations.
