Significant Drug Bust in Purulia

On July 28, Kolkata's Chief Minister, Shubhendu Adhikari, announced that the Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata Police has successfully disrupted an interstate drug trafficking operation in Purulia district, resulting in the detention of seven individuals. The STF, in collaboration with the Purulia district police, intercepted a truck on National Highway 18 near the Belkudi toll plaza on Monday night, seizing a substantial quantity of cannabis.

While the Chief Minister did not disclose specific details regarding the amount of drugs recovered or its estimated value, he expressed his appreciation for the swift and coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies in a post on the social media platform X. He noted that the drugs were hidden in a specially designed concealed compartment behind the driver's seat of the truck. Additionally, two escort vehicles accompanying the truck, which was traveling from Odisha to Asansol, were also stopped during the operation.

Adhikari emphasized that the West Bengal government maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal drug trafficking and any unlawful activities that pose a threat to the safety and welfare of youth and society. He commended the continuous vigilance and dedication of the police force, reaffirming the commitment to eradicate criminal gangs with utmost rigor.
