The initiative aims to empower women financially while also introducing restrictions on alcohol sales near educational institutions. Additionally, the government plans to offer affordable meals in special canteens and establish a new Ayush department to improve healthcare services. Introduction of Annapurna Scheme

On Tuesday, Chief Minister of West Bengal, Shubhendu Adhikari, announced that the state government will commence the distribution of forms for the Annapurna Scheme starting May 27. This initiative aims to provide women with a monthly financial assistance of ₹3,000.


During a press conference following an administrative meeting in Kalyani, Nadia, Adhikari stated, 'Forms for the Annapurna Scheme will be made available by the state secretariat from tomorrow. All Indian citizens are eligible to benefit from this program.'


Restrictions on Alcohol Sales

The Chief Minister also emphasized that the establishment of liquor stores will not be permitted within a one-kilometer radius of schools, colleges, and places of worship.


Affordable Meals and New Department Initiatives

In addition, the government has decided to offer meals comprising fish and rice at a subsidized rate of ₹5 twice a week in approximately 400 special canteens. Furthermore, Adhikari announced the establishment of a separate Ayush department, distinct from the health department, to enhance healthcare services in the state.
