The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, has declared a monthly pension of ₹10,000 for 325 individuals who were imprisoned for participating in protests during the Emergency period. He emphasized the hardships endured by these brave individuals, stating that the new state government is built upon their ideals. According to Adhikari, the state has identified these 325 individuals who faced imprisonment for their involvement in protests during the Emergency. They will receive this pension under the 'West Bengal Democracy Fighter Honor' scheme.

Honoring Sacrifices of Freedom Fighters

Adhikari remarked that the new government is inspired by those who sacrificed for the nation. The BJP-led central government commemorates June 25 as 'Constitution Murder Day' to remember the imposition of the Emergency in 1975. Several BJP-ruled states have also honored individuals imprisoned during this period with awards and pensions. Earlier this year, the BJP achieved power in West Bengal for the first time during the assembly elections.

Tribute to Freedom Fighters

On Sunday, Adhikari paid tribute to freedom fighters on the 84th anniversary of the 'Quit India Movement,' honoring those who sacrificed their lives for the independence struggle. Reflecting on Mahatma Gandhi's call to 'Do or Die,' he acknowledged that thousands of Indians made the ultimate sacrifice for the dream of a free India. On this significant day of August 9, he expressed deep gratitude and sincere homage to all the courageous freedom fighters, stating that their unparalleled bravery and supreme sacrifice laid the foundation for the free India we cherish today.
