Kolkata: In the initial two hours of voting for the second and final phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, approximately 18.39% of the 3.21 crore registered voters participated, according to a senior official from the Election Commission.


As of 9 AM, Purba Bardhaman district led with a turnout of 20.86%, closely followed by Hooghly at 20.16%.


Nadia saw an 18.5% turnout, while North 24 Parganas recorded 17.81%. Other districts like Kolkata Uttar and South 24 Parganas had turnouts of 17.28% and 17.25%, respectively, with Kolkata Dakshin at 16.81%.


The official noted that polling is proceeding smoothly, with only minor incidents reported in some areas, and they are currently awaiting detailed reports from local officials.


Voting is taking place across 142 constituencies during this phase, supported by extensive security measures.


Polling commenced at 7 AM, with voters forming lines outside booths in Kolkata, Howrah, North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Hooghly, and Purba Bardhaman—regions that are crucial to the state's political landscape.


This phase of voting involves 3,21,73,837 eligible voters, including 1,64,35,627 men, 1,57,37,418 women, and 792 voters identifying as third-gender, across 41,001 polling stations, all of which are being monitored via webcasting.
