Assembly Resolution Praises Armed Forces

On Tuesday, the West Bengal Assembly unanimously passed a resolution commending the bravery of the Indian Armed Forces for their precise strikes against terrorist bases along the western border of the country. However, the session witnessed chaos during discussions following Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's comments regarding the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The resolution acknowledged the armed forces' 'unwavering courage in safeguarding the nation' and was passed without any dissent. Interestingly, the term 'Operation Sindoor' was not mentioned in the text of the resolution, although it referenced the precise attacks carried out on May 7 in parts of Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Mamata Banerjee Criticizes Central Government

While addressing the assembly regarding the Pahalgam attack, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the central government led by the BJP, asserting that it should resign for failing to ensure the safety of the citizens. She described the attack as a result of the government's complete failure and negligence, questioning the absence of security forces at the attack site. The terrorist incident on April 22 in Pahalgam resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, primarily tourists.

Call for Justice and Accountability

During the assembly session, Banerjee praised the valor of the armed forces in the context of 'Operation Sindoor,' although the resolution itself did not reference this operation. She raised concerns about the lack of security personnel present during the attack, stating, 'Why were there no security forces or police officers at the scene of the terrorist attack?' Banerjee emphasized that India had an opportunity to take control of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir during military conflicts between the two nations.

Condemnation of Terrorism

Banerjee firmly stated, 'We do not support terrorism; it has no religion, caste, or creed.' She demanded that those responsible for the Pahalgam attack be brought to justice, reiterating her call for the BJP government to resign due to its failure to provide security to the people.

Praise for Military Action

In her remarks, Banerjee acknowledged India's military actions, asserting that Pakistan needed to be taught a lesson. She expressed admiration for the bravery of the armed forces while accusing the BJP of politicizing their valor for electoral gains. Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she claimed that he was more focused on self-promotion than on national security.
