During his appearance on The Great Indian Cricket Show aired on Doordarshan, Jaffer shared his thoughts on Rahul's career trajectory and his potential as a leader.

The Impact of Captaincy on Performance

Jaffer analyzed the contrast between Rahul's batting consistency and his suitability for captaincy. He believes that relieving Rahul of leadership duties allows him to showcase his natural talent. "KL Rahul's personality is better suited for a non-captaincy role. If he can focus solely on his batting, he is likely to score between 500-600 runs consistently. He is a reliable player who can secure victories for the team," Jaffer remarked on the show.

He further noted that the pressures of captaincy can weigh heavily on Rahul, stating, "Given his personality, the added responsibilities of captaincy can create extra stress for him."

Looking Ahead to the Sri Lanka Series

As India prepares for a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in Galle and Colombo, Rahul's role as a senior batter is crucial for maintaining team balance. In a recent three-day practice match against SLC XI, Rahul opened the batting in the first innings, scoring 40 runs off 67 balls, but did not bat in the second innings.

India achieved a six-wicket victory against the Sri Lanka XI, showcasing several positives ahead of the Test series.
