Gautam Gambhir's Family Emergency
Recently, Team India coach Gautam Gambhir had to make an unexpected trip back to India due to his mother's heart attack, causing concern among millions of cricket fans. This incident occurred while the team was preparing for their first Test match scheduled for June 20.
VVS Laxman Takes Over Coaching Duties
To ensure the team's training continues smoothly, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed VVS Laxman as the interim head coach until Gambhir returns from India. Laxman is currently in England overseeing a four-day practice match involving India A and has been chosen for his familiarity with the players and the game.
Laxman's Experience and Current Role
Laxman, who is also the head coach of the Indian Under-19 team, has previously served as interim coach for the senior team on multiple occasions. His current squad includes players like Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who recently debuted in the IPL. The Under-19 team is set to compete in a seven-match series against England from June 17 to July 23.
Gambhir's Expected Return
The BCCI swiftly entrusted Laxman with the senior team's responsibilities following Gambhir's urgent departure. Gambhir is anticipated to return to England by June 20, just in time for the first Test of the five-match series against England.
