Assembly Elections in Kerala, Puducherry, and Assam

Voting for significant assembly elections is taking place on Thursday (April 9) in Kerala, Puducherry, and Assam. The polling commenced around 7 AM and will continue until 5 PM in Assam and 6 PM in Kerala and Puducherry. In Kerala, the Left Democratic Front (LDF), led by Chief Minister P. Vijayan, is striving to retain power for a third consecutive term. According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), approximately 1.32 crore men, 1.39 crore women, and 273 transgender individuals are eligible to cast their votes for 883 candidates vying for 140 assembly seats.




In Assam, the contest is primarily between the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, and the Congress-led coalition. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's NDA is aiming for a third consecutive term in office. The election commission reports that 2.50 crore voters can participate in deciding the fate of 722 candidates across 126 assembly seats.




Puducherry also sees a contest between the NDA and the opposition coalition, which includes Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). Under Chief Minister N.R. Rangasamy's leadership, the NDA hopes to secure a second consecutive term, while Congress aims to regain control of this Union Territory. The election commission has indicated that these elections will determine the fate of 294 candidates for 30 assembly seats, with over 9.5 crore individuals eligible to vote.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has implemented extensive arrangements to ensure fair and peaceful elections:
