Voting Commences for By-Election in Dharmanagar, Tripura Amidst Security Measures

Voting Begins in Dharmanagar Assembly By-Election

The by-election for the Dharmanagar assembly seat in North Tripura district commenced today at 7 AM. According to election officials, voters have been arriving at polling stations since morning to exercise their democratic rights, all under stringent security arrangements. This by-election is being held due to the passing of senior BJP leader and assembly speaker, Biswabandhu Sen, last December.

Interestingly, the number of female voters exceeds that of male voters in this election.

Voter Statistics and Security Measures

There are 23,758 female voters compared to 22,348 male voters. Election officer Debjani Chaudhary stated, 'Voting for the by-election began at all 55 polling stations at 7 AM under tight security. Voters were seen queuing at various polling centers to cast their votes.'

To maintain complete transparency during the voting process, webcasting has been ensured at all polling stations, along with the use of EVMs and VVPATs. Chaudhary added, 'Extensive security arrangements have been made to ensure free, fair, and violence-free voting.'

Preparations Amid Cyclone Warnings

The meteorological department has predicted a cyclone in the region between April 8 and 10. In light of this, the administration has made special arrangements: adequate shading and drainage facilities have been set up at all polling stations to protect voters from rain and strong winds. Additional backup measures are in place to ensure the voting process continues smoothly despite adverse weather conditions.

The results of the Dharmanagar by-election will not only determine the next representative for the area but will also provide insights into the political direction of the state.
