Putin Pays Tribute to Gandhi

New Delhi, Dec 5: On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin laid floral tributes at the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi in Rajghat, emphasizing Gandhi's significant role as a founder of modern India and his "invaluable contribution" to global peace.

While signing the visitor's book at the Raj Ghat complex, Putin remarked that Gandhi foresaw the emergence of a new, equitable multipolar world order that is just beginning to take shape.

The historical ties between Mahatma Gandhi and Russia are noteworthy and reflect the shared heritage of both nations.

In his message, Putin noted, "As one of the architects of the modern Indian state, the esteemed philosopher and humanist Mahatma Gandhi made a priceless contribution to world peace. His principles of freedom, virtue, and humanity continue to resonate today."

He further stated, "Gandhi anticipated a fairer, multipolar world order that is now emerging. In his correspondence with Leo Tolstoy, he elaborated on a future free from dominance, grounded in equality, mutual respect, and cooperation among nations. These are the very values that Russia and India uphold together on the global stage today."

Accompanied by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, President Putin paid his respects to Gandhi at Rajghat.

Following this, Prime Minister Modi warmly received President Putin at the Hyderabad House for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit, reinforcing their Special and Privileged Partnership.

With a long-standing and robust relationship, both leaders are engaged in extensive discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral ties.

On the second and final day of his State Visit, President Putin's schedule is full, including a business event and a banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu in the evening.

Additionally, he will attend a business event at Bharat Mandapam, focusing on boosting commercial and investment collaboration.
