Virat Kohli's Unexpected Test Retirement Shocks Cricket Fans

Kohli's Sudden Retirement Announcement
Virat Kohli's recent announcement regarding his retirement from Test cricket has taken many by surprise, especially with the England tour set to commence on June 20. The timing is particularly striking as it follows closely on the heels of Rohit Sharma's retirement.
Anil Kumble, the former captain of England, expressed his astonishment at the news, stating that both players deserve a fitting farewell on the field. He remarked, "This is a significant surprise. Two exceptional players retiring within days of each other was unexpected. I believed Kohli had more years left in him, particularly in Test cricket," during an interview with a sports media outlet.
Kumble noted that Kohli is now focusing solely on One Day Internationals (ODIs) and emphasized that no player retires without careful consideration. He added, "It’s a quiet exit. Every athlete should have the opportunity to leave on their own terms, ideally on the field. We discussed this when R Ashwin announced his retirement mid-series and later returned to play."
Kumble believes that all three players, including Rohit Sharma and Ashwin, deserve a proper send-off, highlighting the importance of acknowledging their contributions in front of fans. He stated, "In this age of social media, fans would have loved to witness a grand farewell for them."
Currently, Indian players are engaged in the IPL, after which they will participate in a five-match Test series against England starting June 20.
