Kohli's Visit to Delhi Public School

On April 28, star cricketer Virat Kohli visited the West Delhi Academy branch of Delhi Public School, which is run by his childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma. This visit coincided with RCB's match against the Delhi Capitals, where Kohli contributed to his team's victory by scoring 23 runs off 15 balls, helping RCB chase down a modest target of 76 runs in just 6.3 overs.

Inauguration of the Cricket Academy

Following RCB's win, Kohli celebrated a significant milestone of reaching 9,000 runs in the IPL, becoming the first player to achieve this feat. He then attended an event at the school to inaugurate the West Delhi Cricket Academy, where he engaged with aspiring young cricketers.

Kohli's Reflections on Speaking to Students

During the inauguration, Kohli expressed feeling 'awkward' while addressing the students, admitting that he had not spoken in such settings for a long time since focusing on his cricket career. He shared, "Thank you for having me. I'm not used to speaking in schools, so this is going to be a bit awkward for me because I moved away from the school setup long ago for cricket."

He continued, "I understand the environment of a school. I've been through the same process and stage that all you kids are a part of right now. And I can just share from my own experience how my focus and priority changed very early on in my life."

Kohli's Educational Journey

Kohli completed his schooling at Saviour Convent School in Paschim Vihar, Delhi, where he transferred in the ninth grade to better pursue his cricket ambitions. After finishing 12th grade, he fully committed to cricket, leading India to a U19 World Cup victory in 2008 and later making his debut for the senior national team.

Advice on Discipline and Respect

Kohli took the opportunity to impart wisdom to the students about the importance of discipline, respect, and honesty. He emphasized, "Have respect and regard for that environment first. For your teachers, for the people who are teaching you. They are giving you a part of their lives. It's very important to give them that respect and the focus and attention that's required."

He added, "I chose sport very early on in my life, but that came from a very honest place. I was very sure that I wanted to go ahead and pursue cricket, and I had to be honest with myself, my family, and also my teachers to convey to them that this is the path I want to take."

Kohli's Current Achievements

As one of the top players for Team India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kohli has amassed over 28,000 runs in international cricket and 9,000 runs in the IPL, solidifying his status as one of the most prolific run-scorers in cricket history.
