Legal Complaint Filed Against Virat Kohli

A significant legal complaint has been lodged against renowned cricketer Virat Kohli in connection with a tragic stampede in Bengaluru that resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals. This unfortunate event took place on Wednesday evening during a public celebration marking the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) first IPL title win in 18 years.


The complaint was submitted by activist HM Venkatesh from Shivamogga district in Karnataka at the Cubbon Park Police Station. He has accused Kohli of inciting the chaos that led to the disaster outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, which drew a large crowd of fans eager to see their favorite players.


Police Investigation Underway

Authorities have confirmed that Kohli's complaint has been incorporated into an ongoing investigation involving the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and DNA Entertainment Network, the event's organizers. These parties are facing charges under Sections 105, 118, and 120 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for alleged criminal negligence.


Reports indicate that 47 people sustained injuries, with the deceased primarily being women and children. In response, the Karnataka government has announced a compensation package of ₹10 lakh for the families of the victims and will cover medical expenses for the injured.

Virat Kohli has reportedly traveled to London and was spotted at Mumbai Airport on Thursday. His absence has sparked varied reactions from fans and critics on social media.


In a related development, Nikhil Sosale, the Head of Marketing and Revenue at RCB, was apprehended at Bengaluru Airport while attempting to board a flight to Mumbai. He is believed to be a key organizer of the event and is currently being questioned regarding potential planning oversights.


RCB has publicly expressed regret over the incident and announced plans to match the ₹10 lakh relief offered by the government to the victims' families.
