Violence Breaks Out During Holi Festivities

Authorities reported that a dispute over playing with colors during Holi escalated into a violent confrontation between two groups in a village in Barabanki district, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Tikaria village, resulting in injuries to at least 11 individuals. According to police, a verbal altercation over the festivities quickly turned into a bloody clash.


Witnesses claim that both groups attacked each other with sticks, rods, and iron bars for approximately ten minutes, creating panic in the area. Local residents intervened in an attempt to restore order. Police officials arrived at the scene shortly after receiving reports and managed to calm both parties.


Injuries and Allegations

Villagers indicated that eight individuals from one group and three from the other sustained injuries. The police confirmed that all injured parties were sent for medical evaluation. One villager, Avadhesh, alleged that members of the opposing group invaded his home while no male family members were present and attacked his family. He claimed that when he and others attempted to intervene, they were also assaulted. Avadhesh further accused four individuals of restraining him and attacking him with a knife.


Following the clash, tensions rose in the village, but the situation is currently under control, according to police.


Police Response and Ongoing Investigation

Ajay Kumar Tripathi, the officer in charge of Deva police station, stated that both groups have filed complaints, and cases will be registered based on these reports. He mentioned that medical examinations for the injured are underway, and necessary legal actions will follow the investigation. The police are also reviewing video footage related to the incident and have urged residents to maintain peace.
