Violent Clash Erupts Among Sikh Worshippers in Duisburg Gurdwara

A disturbing incident has emerged from Duisburg, Germany, where two factions of Sikh devotees clashed inside a gurdwara. The violent confrontation escalated to the point where traditional kirpans and knives were used, along with a firearm and pepper spray. At least 11 individuals sustained injuries during this bloody altercation. Video clips of the incident have surfaced online, showing members of both groups attacking each other within the sacred space.

What Actually Happened?

According to reports, around 40 individuals were involved in the altercation, prompting a significant police response that included the deployment of special tactical units. Eyewitnesses noted that, in addition to sharp weapons, pepper spray and even a gun were utilized within the religious premises.

Police Investigation Links Clash to Election Rivalry

The underlying cause of the violence remains under investigation. However, initial police inquiries suggest that the dispute may be related to the election of a new board of directors. There are indications that disagreements over the gurdwara's funds, which multiple groups are vying to control, also played a role in the conflict.

A 56-year-old eyewitness recounted to a news outlet, "This must have been a premeditated attack. Just before the service began, the assailants suddenly used pepper spray against their opponents. Then one of them fired a gun. I also saw knives."

The witness further explained that tensions had been escalating between former and current board members for some time, primarily due to the struggle for control over funds and authority within the temple. "When the attack started, many people panicked and ran in all directions; the situation could have been much worse. Thankfully, no one’s life was in danger."

Reports indicate that 11 individuals were injured, receiving treatment from paramedics and an emergency physician on-site. Police have detained at least one suspect, who was placed in a patrol car, while investigators are working to understand the sequence of events and identify those responsible. The firearm used in the incident has not yet been recovered, but shell casings found at the scene suggest it may have been a blank-firing pistol.
