Fratricide Incident in Noney District

Imphal, July 23: A tragic incident of fratricide occurred in Manipur's Noney district on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of five militants during a violent confrontation, as reported by officials.

A senior official from Imphal revealed that the deadly clash took place among members of a militant group in the jungle area of Daveijang, close to Longpi village in western Manipur.

Initial reports indicate that the gunfight involved the Chin Kuki Mizo Army (CKMA), a militant organization that has not entered into any Suspension of Operations agreement with the authorities.

The CKMA is a relatively new militant faction, and the official suggested that the conflict may have stemmed from disputes over leadership. In a related incident on June 30, four individuals, including an elderly woman, were killed in an ambush in Churachandpur district.

According to police reports, a vehicle was attacked in Mongjang village, resulting in the immediate deaths of three men inside the car. Additionally, a 72-year-old woman, who happened to be in the vicinity, was struck by gunfire and later died from her injuries while being transported to the hospital in Churachandpur district.
