Fatal Incident Sparks Unrest in Patna

On Friday, a tragic incident occurred in the Badi Pahadi area of Patna, Bihar, where a speeding bus struck and killed a man, leading to violent protests. Angered locals vandalized the bus, breaking its windows and subsequently setting it ablaze. This incident caused significant chaos in the vicinity, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Agamkuan police station. The aftermath resulted in a traffic jam stretching over 10 kilometers, prompting the deployment of additional police forces to manage the crowd.




The situation escalated as protesters clashed with police, throwing stones and igniting a fire at a police station. Three police vehicles were also set on fire, further intensifying the disorder. Authorities have increased their presence in the area, working to restore order and facilitate the movement of vehicles. A police official reported that three officers were stationed at the police station when it was attacked, and the assailants appeared to be local residents. Despite attempts by the Assistant Commissioner of Police to engage with the protesters, the violence persisted.


Authorities Respond to the Crisis

To assess the situation, several senior officials, including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Patna City, Satyam Sahay, arrived at the scene. Sahay confirmed that the body of the deceased had been removed from the road, allowing traffic to resume. He also mentioned that an investigation is underway to identify those responsible for the violence. According to him, the incident began with a road accident, after which the deceased's body was used to block the road, leading to the ensuing unrest.




Local residents have voiced concerns about the poor condition of the road, claiming that the bus was speeding, which contributed to the man's death. The police have yet to disclose the identity of the victim. One local stated that the road was in disrepair and that the bus was traveling at high speed, although passengers on board were unharmed, likely being residents of nearby villages.
