Freelance videographer OC Hawk noted that the store's exterior was 'completely trashed' and that teenagers apprehended for violating curfew had to be collected by their parents.
Police Response Escalates Tensions
Instead of calming down, the crowd's aggression intensified upon police arrival. Individuals continued to clash and began directing fireworks at officers. Footage captured at the scene depicted police on horseback charging into the beach crowd in an effort to restore order, as reported by another local news source. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with one Reddit user stating that the peninsula experienced 'a literal riot' and that the area was heavily policed. 'Cops are out in riot gear and they had to call other cities to help,' the user reported. They also mentioned encountering a checkpoint with heavily armed officers just to return home, noting that traffic was completely gridlocked. Another individual, who was driving for Uber in the vicinity, observed unusually high surge pricing, which made sense once they learned of the ongoing disturbances.
