Violence Erupts at Wedding in Uttar Pradesh Over Negotiated Gifts
Chaos at a Wedding Ceremony
A wedding in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, turned chaotic when a dispute over a gift demand escalated into violence between the guests and a group of transgender individuals. This incident occurred in the Husainpur village of the Kunwarganj police area, where gunfire and stone-pelting led to serious injuries for the groom's brother. The police swiftly intervened, arresting six transgender individuals at the scene. According to reports, the wedding party had arrived from the village of Kathra in the Musajhag area, and the ceremonies had been proceeding smoothly until the morning of the 'pheras' (wedding rituals).
The transgender group demanded a gift of 11,000 rupees from the groom's family. The groom's father offered 1,100 rupees, but the demand was firmly rejected by the transgender individuals. This disagreement quickly escalated into a heated argument, during which the transgender group allegedly engaged in inappropriate behavior, prompting a strong backlash from the wedding guests.
Gunfire and Panic at the Venue
The situation deteriorated to the point where the transgender individuals retrieved weapons from their vehicle. Eyewitnesses reported that one of them fired a gun and began throwing stones, causing panic among the attendees. The groom's brother sustained injuries during this attack and was rushed to the district hospital for treatment.
Police Action and Legal Proceedings
Upon hearing the gunfire, local villagers gathered and managed to corner the fleeing transgender individuals. The police arrived promptly and detained six suspects. A search of their vehicle revealed two illegal firearms, cartridges, sticks, and sharp weapons like scissors.
City Circle Officer Rajneesh Kumar Upadhyay confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the law. Legal action is being taken based on the seized weapons. Despite the tense atmosphere, the wedding rituals were completed under strict police supervision, and the wedding party departed safely.
