A wedding in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, turned chaotic when a violent clash broke out between the groom's and bride's sides. Young men from both parties engaged in a fierce brawl, throwing stones and attacking each other with sticks. Tragically, one young man from the wedding party lost his life, while another sustained injuries. A video capturing the incident has gone viral on social media. The altercation reportedly took place at a marriage hall located in the Akolawa area of the Shahpur police jurisdiction. Following the incident, the assailants fled the scene. Police arrived shortly after and took the deceased's body for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered based on the victim's complaint, and authorities are actively searching for the suspects.
Details of the Incident
The wedding was for the daughter of a municipal employee named Jitendra. The trouble began on Friday night after the arrival of the wedding procession, sparked by a dispute over music played by the DJ and escalated when the groom's side received nine pieces of leg meat during the meal. This disagreement quickly transformed into a violent confrontation, causing panic in the marriage hall. Witnesses reported that both sides began throwing bricks and stones at each other, while some were seen wielding belts and sticks. The hall was filled with screams as guests scrambled for safety.
Victims of the Violence
Reports indicate that members of the groom's side captured two young men from the bride's side and severely beat them with belts and sticks, resulting in serious injuries. One of the victims, Sumit, a resident of the Awas Vikas Colony in Shahpur, was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Another individual, identified as Nepali, is also receiving treatment for his injuries. It is noteworthy that Sumit had only been married for three months, and his family is devastated by his untimely death.
Aftermath and Police Action
Sumit was the youngest son in his family, with two older brothers, Narendra and Amit. He worked at a mobile shop on Jail Road to support his family. Following the incident, the suspects fled the scene, but the Shahpur police have registered a case and are in pursuit of the culprits. The police have taken the deceased's body for post-mortem and are investigating the matter further.
Arrests Made
SP City Nimesh Patil reported that around 11:30 PM, the Shahpur police received information about the brawl at the wedding. Upon arrival, they found two individuals severely injured, who were subsequently taken to the hospital, where one was pronounced dead. The SP confirmed that a case has been filed based on the victim's family's complaint, and seven individuals have been detained for questioning as the investigation continues.
