Violence Erupts Again in Manipur Following Explosions
Fresh Explosions in Bishnupur District
Imphal, Jan 5: New incidents of violence broke out in Manipur on Monday after explosive devices detonated at an abandoned house in Bishnupur district, which borders Churachandpur district, injuring two individuals.
Following the explosions, frustrated locals confronted security personnel who arrived at the scene, accusing them of negligence despite a significant number of forces being stationed in nearby areas.
In their anger, residents dismantled a nearby makeshift security bunker. As of the latest updates, tensions remain high in the district.
According to law enforcement sources, the initial explosion took place early in the morning at the deserted residence of Salam Mani Singh (70) located in Ngaukon Ward Nos. 7/8, under the jurisdiction of Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station in Bishnupur district.
This house has been unoccupied since May 2023, as the owner is currently residing in a relief camp due to the ethnic violence that has affected the state.
Shortly after the first explosion, a second blast occurred about 200 meters away from the abandoned house at approximately 8:46 am.
Two individuals were injured in this second explosion, identified as Soibam Sanatomba Singh (52) from Saiton Makha Leikai and Nongthombam Indubala Devi (37) from Saiton Heiyaikon Maning Leikai.
Both victims were promptly transported to Bishnupur District Hospital for medical attention.
Police teams quickly arrived at the scene, secured the explosion sites, and initiated an investigation.
Increased security measures have been implemented in the affected area to prevent further incidents.
These explosions occurred just three days after security forces successfully neutralized 27 locally-made bombs at a secure location near Mongham village in Imphal East district on January 2.
Officials reported that these bombs were discovered during intensified search operations in vulnerable areas. Bomb disposal teams subsequently defused the explosives, preventing potential harm to civilians and property.
