Renowned Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has announced her successful registration for the upcoming 2026 Senior Open Ranking Tournament, scheduled to take place in Gonda from May 10 to May 12.


In a post on X, Phogat shared that she completed her registration on Tuesday morning after initially missing the deadline the previous day when the registration link was closed. She expressed gratitude for the support she received and conveyed her eagerness to return to competitive wrestling after a 20-month break. "I managed to register for the ranking tournament this morning. I couldn't do it yesterday due to the link closure. Thank you all for your support. I'm excited to compete in my first event after 20 months," Vinesh stated.


Phogat's Journey: Retirement and Comeback

Vinesh Phogat had declared her retirement from wrestling in 2024 but made a comeback announcement in December 2025 after an 18-month break, reigniting her pursuit of Olympic glory.


Controversy at the Paris Olympics

In 2024, Phogat retired following a disqualification in the 50 kg freestyle final at the Paris Olympics. She had reached the gold medal match by defeating Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman Lopez 5-0 in the semi-finals but was disqualified for exceeding the weight limit before her match against Sarah Ann Hildebrandt from the United States.


Phogat's Impressive Achievements

Throughout her illustrious career, Phogat has earned two bronze medals at the World Championships (2019 and 2022), a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games, and a bronze in 2014. Additionally, she has claimed three gold medals at the Commonwealth Games (2014, 2018, 2022) and secured a gold medal at the 2021 Asian Championships, along with silver and bronze medals at the continental level.
