Vinesh Phogat's Serious Allegations

On Sunday, Vinesh Phogat, a prominent female wrestler and legislator from Jullana, Haryana, claimed that she too was a victim of sexual harassment by Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the former president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). She is among six wrestlers who have filed complaints against Singh. After a hiatus of 20 months, Vinesh is preparing to return to wrestling. In a video posted on social media, she expressed her need to come forward with this revelation, especially as the WFI has decided to host a significant ranking tournament at Singh's residence in Gonda, which could influence the outcomes.

Vinesh's Return to Wrestling

Vinesh stated, "As you all know, I have been away from the wrestling mat for a year and a half. A few months ago, I resumed my training with great dedication and honesty. Just as I have won medals for my country in the past, I hope to return to the mat and win many more medals, bringing honor to our flag with the blessings of God and your support."

Concerns Over Upcoming Tournament

She further elaborated, "About a month ago, the Wrestling Federation announced a ranking tournament. This event is being organized in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, where Brij Bhushan has his private college. It seems impossible for hardworking athletes to receive their due recognition in such a scenario."

Government's Inaction

Vinesh criticized the government and the sports ministry for their inaction, stating, "The referees and match officials will be controlled by Brij Bhushan and his associates. The government and our sports ministry are merely spectators in this situation, with no one stepping forward to assist the athletes."

Feeling Unsafe in Competition

She expressed her concerns about competing in an environment where Brij Bhushan has influence, saying, "It is extremely challenging to compete in such a situation, where every individual involved is connected to him. I doubt I can give my 100% under these circumstances, as it adds immense mental pressure on athletes."

Accountability of the Government

Vinesh emphasized that the government would be responsible for any incidents that occur during the competition, stating, "If anything happens to me or my team, the Indian government will be directly accountable, as Brij Bhushan has openly admitted to serious crimes without facing consequences."

Fairness in Competitions

She concluded by asserting her desire for fairness in competitions, saying, "I do not seek any special treatment; I just want decisions to be made based on the hard work of each athlete, not influenced by any corrupt individuals. I urge all sports enthusiasts and media to be present and ensure the truth is revealed to the nation. Jai Hind!"

Allegations Against the Wrestling Federation

As she prepares for her return after nearly 20 months, Vinesh has accused the Wrestling Federation of India of obstructing her registration. In response, the federation's president, Sanjay Singh, dismissed these allegations as 'unwarranted drama.'
