Vijay's TVK Gains Momentum with VCK and IUML Support in Tamil Nadu
Support Solidifies for Vijay's Government Formation
Chennai: The VCK has officially announced its unconditional support for Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to establish a government in Tamil Nadu. The actor-turned-politician is anticipated to meet with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar shortly.
Following VCK's endorsement, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), another ally of the DMK, also pledged its support to TVK, which now has a total of 120 seats, surpassing the simple majority threshold of 118 in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly.
TVK leader Adhav Arjuna confirmed to the media that VCK's backing has solidified their position, ending the uncertainty surrounding the new government.
VCK's senior leader, Vanni Arasu, who also leads the legislature party, has sent a letter to Governor Arlekar affirming their support for TVK.
Arjuna expressed gratitude towards the Congress, Left parties, and VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan MP for their assistance, confidently stating that Vijay is poised to become the Chief Minister.
Currently, VCK plans to provide external support to Vijay as he seeks to form TVK's first government.
In a swift move, the IUML also confirmed its support for TVK following VCK's announcement.
Initially, Vijay's TVK secured 108 seats but fell short of a majority. The party had previously reached out to Congress, CPI, CPI (M), VCK, and IUML—partners of the DMK—to garner support after their victory in the recent Assembly elections held on April 23.
Vijay, having won from two constituencies, must resign from one, which will reduce TVK's strength to 107. The total number of MLAs supporting TVK, including Congress (5) and the two MLAs each from CPI, CPI (M), VCK, and IUML, stands at 13.
