Vijay's Strong Criticism of the DMK Government

Actor-turned-politician Vijay launched a fierce critique of the ruling DMK government during a public gathering in Irod on Thursday. He accused the administration of ineffective governance, unfulfilled promises, and corruption. Labeling the DMK as a negative force, he presented his party, Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), as a clean and righteous alternative ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. This rally marked Vijay's first public appearance following the tragic stampede in Karur that claimed 41 lives. He referenced cultural symbols, noting that turmeric is traditionally used to mark the beginning of auspicious events, and highlighted the significance of the 'manjal' (turmeric) which is also reflected in the Tamil Nadu flag. Vijay emphasized the agricultural identity of Irod, known for its turmeric cultivation.

Importance of Irrigation and Community Support

Discussing irrigation, Vijay specifically mentioned the Kalinjarayan canal, which he stated has played a crucial role in enhancing agriculture. He shared a local folklore about how the canal was funded by the earnings of its mother selling yogurt and milk. He expressed that with community support, anything is achievable. He also acknowledged the trust shown by the people of Irod, which he believes empowers him. Vijay alleged that there are individuals plotting to undermine this progress, but reassured that his bond with the public is longstanding, dating back 34 years since his entry into cinema. He asserted that no matter the challenges, he will not disappoint the people who have supported him.

Acknowledging Social Reformers

Anticipating a positive response from the crowd, Vijay asked if the people would stand by him, expressing gratitude for their enthusiasm. He referred to social reformer Periyar as the 'Iron Man of Irod,' recognizing him as a transformative figure for Tamil Nadu. Vijay noted that while Periyar provided ideological foundations, Anna and MGR developed electoral strategies. He stated that no one can object to utilizing the legacies of Anna and MGR.
