Vijay Criticizes DMK Government
Vijay, the leader of the Tamilaga Vetrri Kazhagam (TVK), labeled the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government as a 'bad force' on Thursday, urging voters in Tamil Nadu to remove it from power in the upcoming assembly elections. After filing his nomination as the party candidate from Tiruchirappalli East, he addressed a public gathering in Tiruchirappalli, accusing the DMK of failing to fulfill its promises made during the 2021 elections.
Following his nomination, he paid homage to the statue of former Chief Minister and AIADMK founder M.G. Ramachandran. Vijay expressed his concerns about the DMK's inability to ensure safety or provide basic amenities, questioning what should be done about such a government. He assured the public that unlike Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, he would not make false promises.
Vijay pointed out the unfulfilled promises made by Stalin, such as the ₹100 subsidy per gas cylinder and the cancellation of the NEET exam, claiming these were mere lies. He emphasized that he would not engage in making false commitments and would instead focus on understanding and addressing the needs of the people. Additionally, he criticized both the central and state governments for the alleged shortage of commercial LPG cylinders amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
He raised concerns about the current gas situation, questioning whether all issues had been resolved and highlighting the problems caused by the gas shortage, including the closure of tea shops and hotels. He asserted that the responsibility for the gas crisis lay solely with the two governments. Vijay is contesting from two constituencies, Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East, against the incumbent DMK legislators R.D. Shekhar and Inigo S. Irudayaraj, respectively. The Perambur constituency was previously a stronghold of the CPI(M) until 2016, with R.D. Shekhar holding the seat since winning a by-election in 2019.
