Significant Connectivity Developments in Northeast

Agartala, Mar 8: On Sunday, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan emphasized the remarkable advancements in connectivity within the Northeast over the last ten years, which have significantly enhanced economic activities in the area.

Speaking at the convocation ceremony of Tripura Central University in Suryamaninagar, West Tripura, he noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been instrumental in unlocking the region's potential.

“As someone from Chennai, I remember how challenging it was to travel from Chennai to Agartala in a single day. However, with improved infrastructure, numerous long-distance trains now connect Agartala. Today, traveling from Kohima to Agartala in one day symbolizes a more interconnected India,” he remarked.

Radhakrishnan further stated, “In the past decade, Prime Minister Modi has tirelessly worked to harness the Northeast's potential, leading to a more dynamic economy in the region.”

Encouragement for Research and Innovation

The Vice President urged the university to maintain its focus on producing high-quality research and fostering innovation.

“Tripura Central University has become a lively hub for teaching, research, and innovation, making consistent strides in quality research. This momentum should continue, with an emphasis on innovation and increasing intellectual properties. Engaging in the national research platform signifies its emergence on the national academic stage,” he stated.

He also highlighted the significance of time management, noting that individuals often encounter failures before achieving success. He encouraged students to utilize technology responsibly, asserting that “progress with purpose” is vital for societal and human advancement.

Tourism and Economic Growth

Radhakrishnan pointed out the importance of tourism development in the state, mentioning the foundation stone for the Matabari tourist circuit laid in January 2026 in Udaipur, Gomati district.

“According to the Gomati Collector, the annual tourist footfall at the Maa Tripurasundari temple has surged from 3.5 lakh to 8.50 lakh. This growth will undoubtedly create local employment opportunities. An economy that remains stagnant cannot thrive without circulation,” he remarked.

He also welcomed the initiation of the State Innovation Mission (SIM) under the Atal Innovation Mission, expressing gratitude to Chief Minister Manik Saha and his team for this significant step towards fostering innovation and entrepreneurship for sustainable development.

Empowerment of Women

During his visit to the Badharghat International Fair Ground on International Women’s Day, he interacted with lakhpati didis, expressing optimism that they would evolve into “crorepati didis” in the future. He affirmed that women in the state would continue to progress towards greater self-empowerment under Chief Minister Manik Saha's leadership.

Before departing from the state, the Vice President paid homage to martyrs at the Elbert Ekka War Memorial in Lichubagan, West Tripura.
