MANDI: On Friday, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar arrived in Shimla for a two-day official visit to Himachal Pradesh, where he was ceremoniously welcomed as his helicopter touched down at the Annandale helipad after departing from Chandigarh.

Upon his arrival, Dhankhar was greeted by Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh, acting Director General of Police Ashok Tiwari, along with senior officials from both civil administration and armed forces.

Extensive security protocols have been established throughout Shimla. Key routes, such as Annandale to Vidhan Sabha and Shilli Chowk to Oak Over, experienced traffic suspensions from 11 am to 12 pm to facilitate the Vice-President's convoy.

The Shimla police issued advisories to residents, encouraging the use of alternative routes. Officials cautioned that vehicles parked improperly would be towed away. Government employees heading to Kumar House were specifically advised to use personal vehicles only if sufficient parking was available.

Public Engagement on Mall Road

The Vice-President's motorcade traversed the historic Mall Road, where he took a moment to greet residents, appreciating the warm welcome from the people of Shimla.

To ensure a smooth and secure visit, over 300 police personnel were deployed throughout the city, with additional forces called in. DSP (Traffic) Sandeep Sharma urged citizens to avoid restricted routes unless absolutely necessary and to utilize alternative pathways during the Vice-President's stay.

As part of his official agenda, Vice-President Dhankhar is scheduled to attend an interactive program on June 7 at Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry in Nauni. He will serve as the chief guest and is anticipated to speak to students and faculty on topics of national significance.

This visit underscores a pivotal moment for Himachal Pradesh, reflecting the Centre's increasing involvement with the region's academic and administrative institutions.
