Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan's Historic Visit to Jammu and Kashmir
Vice President's Arrival in Srinagar
Srinagar: On Wednesday, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan commenced a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
His arrival was marked by a Business Boeing Jet landing at Srinagar Airport in the evening.
At the airport, he was welcomed by Jammu and Kashmir's Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, the General Officer Commanding of the 15 Corps, and the J&K Director General of Police.
Following his arrival, the Vice President traveled in a secure convoy to the Raj Bhawan located in the Chashma Shahi area, where he will be residing during his stay.
This marks Radhakrishnan's inaugural visit to Jammu and Kashmir since taking office.
He is set to be the chief guest at the 21st convocation of the University of Kashmir, scheduled for Thursday at its Hazratbal campus.
The Lt Governor serves as the Chancellor, while the Chief Minister holds the position of Pro-Chancellor at the university.
In anticipation of the Vice President's visit, security measures were heightened, including route sanitization and a dry run along his designated travel paths in Srinagar.
Temporary checkpoints have been established at various locations, with increased vehicle checks and passenger screenings to ensure safety during the VVIP's visit.
The Traffic Department has released a comprehensive advisory urging commuters to utilize alternative routes to facilitate the smooth passage of the Vice President's convoy.
As per the advisory, motorists will not be permitted to travel towards Nishat, Shalimar, Harwan, and nearby areas via Badyari Chowk and Gupkar on Thursday.
Traffic from Ram Munshibagh towards Hotel Grand Palace will also be halted, with vehicles redirected towards Dalgate, Sangermal, and Ikhwan Chowk.
Authorities indicated that traffic restrictions will be in place on the Dalgate, Khayam, Khanyar, Rainawari, Saidkadal, and Hazratbal road stretches during the specified timeframe.
Motorists coming from Harwan, Shalimar, Nishat, Ganderbal, and surrounding areas towards Lal Chowk are advised to take the Burzahama route through Chandpora, Tailbal, Zakoora, Malbagh, Illahibagh, and 90 Feet Road, and vice versa.
Additionally, those traveling from Dalgate, Lal Chowk, and nearby areas towards Harwan, Shalimar, and Nishat should use the Sangermal, Ikhwan Chowk, Nowhatta, 90 Feet Road, and Malbagh route.
Travelers heading to Srinagar Airport from Harwan, Shalimar, and Nishat will be allowed to proceed via Burzahama, Chandpora, Tailbal, Zakoora, Malbagh, Illahibagh, and 90 Feet Road.
Vehicles moving from Panthachowk and Pandrethan towards Ram Munshibagh will be permitted through Peaks Motors Nowgam and the Bypass.
Officials have stated that medical emergencies will be accommodated after proper verification, and citizens in need of assistance can reach out to the Traffic Police.
