India's Naval Chief Stresses National Security

On Monday, Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, the newly appointed Chief of Naval Staff, articulated a strong stance regarding the protection of the nation's security and borders. He emphasized that India is fully prepared to respond decisively to any cross-border aggression, asserting that there will be no compromise on the country's integrity. As the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, Swaminathan pointed out that India has been a victim of terrorism for many years.

He stated that terrorist activities within the country are unacceptable, especially when they are orchestrated from foreign soil.

Operation Sindoor Targets Terrorism

Swaminathan mentioned that 'Operation Sindoor' specifically targets terrorists and their camps involved in heinous acts, such as the horrific incident in Pahalgam in 2025. He remarked, "Those who understand well know that aggression never originates from India. India has always been in a position to respond. Aggression comes from across the border. Regardless of what people say, as far as we are concerned, India will be ready, and if any aggression occurs from that side, we are capable of crushing it."

Response to Pakistan's Military Chief

These comments were made in response to remarks by Pakistan's Army Chief, General Asim Munir, who warned that any aggression against Islamabad would have severe, dangerous, and far-reaching consequences. Swaminathan reiterated that 'Operation Sindoor' is essential to prevent India from being a victim of terrorism, reminding everyone of the steps necessary to strengthen the nation. He clarified that from the Indian Army's perspective, Operation Sindoor is still ongoing.

Changing Global Security Landscape

Swaminathan noted that there is a significant shift occurring in the global security environment. Supply chains are increasingly being weaponized, competition for access to critical technologies is intensifying, and geopolitical rivalries are altering the strategic landscape across various domains. Countries that rely heavily on external suppliers for defense preparedness not only face economic vulnerabilities but also strategic uncertainties.

He emphasized that the Indian Navy is not a formal peacetime force but an active navy that remains continuously deployed in vast and complex maritime areas. Stressing the importance of self-reliance, he stated that the navy must be equipped with systems and platforms designed, developed, and manufactured within India to fulfill its responsibilities.

New Leadership in the Indian Navy

Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan is set to take over as India's next Chief of Naval Staff on May 9, succeeding Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, who will retire on May 31.
