Caracas: The aftermath of two significant earthquakes in Venezuela has resulted in a tragic death toll of 589, with nearly 2,980 individuals reported injured, according to acting President Delcy Rodriguez on Friday morning.
Rodriguez made this grim announcement in the presence of military and government officials while welcoming international rescue teams arriving to assist.
She emphasized, "We are committed to rescuing those trapped. Our efforts are relentless in this mission."
The state of La Guaira has suffered the most from the earthquakes, which registered magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 on Wednesday evening. The area has been declared a militarized zone as rescue teams work to locate survivors and provide essential supplies like food and water.
