Delcy Rodriguez's Upcoming Visit to India

New Delhi: Delcy Rodriguez, the Acting President of Venezuela, is scheduled to visit India from June 3 to June 7. During her stay, she will engage in discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the strengthening of bilateral relations, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday.

At a media briefing in New Delhi, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted Rodriguez's previous visits to India, where she served as both Foreign Minister and Vice President.

Originally, Rodriguez was set to attend the International Big Cats Alliance (IBCA) Summit on June 1, which has since been postponed. Instead, she will embark on a working visit accompanied by several ministers, including those responsible for Foreign Affairs, Economy, Finance, Science and Technology, Communication, and Transportation.

This marks Rodriguez's sixth visit to India, having previously traveled here as Foreign Minister in 2015 and as Vice President in 2019, 2023, 2024, and 2025. Jaiswal noted her long-standing relationship with India.

India views Venezuela as a significant partner, particularly in the energy and investment sectors. During her visit, Rodriguez and her delegation will tour various sites across the country.

The discussions between Rodriguez and PM Modi will cover a wide range of topics, including energy, trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transportation, and renewable energy. Indian public sector enterprises have made substantial investments in Venezuela's energy sector and are eager to explore further opportunities.

Earlier this year, on January 30, PM Modi and Rodriguez spoke over the phone, discussing bilateral relations and various regional and global matters of shared interest.

Both leaders expressed their commitment to enhancing the India-Venezuela partnership across multiple sectors, including trade, investment, energy, digital technology, health, agriculture, and cultural exchanges.

They also emphasized the significance of their collaboration for the Global South.

Rodriguez assumed the role of Interim President of Venezuela on January 5, following a U.S. intervention that targeted President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.
