Veda Krishnamurthy Supports Deepti Sharma for UP Warriorz Captaincy in WPL 2027
Veda Krishnamurthy Advocates for Deepti Sharma as Captain
Former Indian cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy has expressed her support for Deepti Sharma to assume the captaincy of UP Warriorz for the upcoming TATA WPL 2027 season. She believes that the franchise should consider appointing an Indian player for this leadership position. Having been with UP Warriorz for four years, Veda feels that Deepti is well-prepared to lead the team, especially with the guidance of former Australian captain Meg Lanning.
Strategic Advantages of an Indian Captain
During a discussion on JioStar’s ‘Match Centre Live Auction Special’, Veda emphasized the benefits of having an Indian captain, which could provide the franchise with more flexibility in selecting its overseas players. She stated, "I am a big fan of having an Indian player as captain. That solves a lot of problems when you talk about the overseas combination. With Deepti Sharma's experience, it’s time for UP Warriorz to consider her as captain."
Veda also mentioned that Meg Lanning could still play a crucial role in supporting Deepti without necessarily being the captain herself.
Expert Insights on Squad Acquisitions
Abhinav Mukund, another expert on the show, praised UP Warriorz for acquiring Grace Harris at her base price, noting that she is a valuable addition despite being overlooked by other teams. He remarked, "Grace Harris is a great pick and will contribute significantly to the middle order for UP Warriorz."
Anjum Chopra pointed out the selection dilemmas facing the team with the new signings of Sophie Molineux and Grace Harris, alongside existing players like Phoebe Litchfield and Meg Lanning. She highlighted the challenge of fitting all these talents into the playing XI.
The Role of Experienced All-Rounders
Anjum also discussed the acquisition of Sneh Rana, emphasizing her experience and potential impact on the team. She stated, "Sneh Rana is vastly experienced and can make a difference. Even last season, she performed well for Delhi Capitals. She still has much to offer in international cricket and is a valuable asset for the team."
