VD Satheesan's Call for Collaboration

On Friday, VD Satheesan, the incoming Chief Minister of Kerala, acknowledged Pinarayi Vijayan as one of the most experienced figures in the state's political landscape. After meeting Vijayan at his residence in Thiruvananthapuram, Satheesan highlighted the importance of collaboration beyond political differences. He stated, 'While we may not agree on every issue, it is crucial for us to unite on matters of significance for the state. I am hopeful that this can be achieved.' He assured that ongoing development projects would remain unaffected.

Continuity in Governance

Satheesan emphasized the need for continuity in governance, asserting that initiatives launched by previous administrations would not be halted. He remarked, 'These initiatives are the legacy of past governments. If one government cancels the projects of another, how can Kerala progress?' Vijayan has been invited to the swearing-in ceremony. Just a day prior, the Congress party announced Satheesan as Kerala's next Chief Minister following a significant victory for the United Democratic Front (UDF) in the 2026 assembly elections.

Election Victory and Future Plans

VD Satheesan is set to take the oath of office on May 18 at the Lok Bhavan. The UDF secured a decisive mandate by winning 102 out of 140 seats in the Kerala assembly, effectively ending a decade of governance by the Left Democratic Front (LDF). Representing the Paravur constituency, Satheesan achieved his sixth consecutive victory in the assembly elections, garnering 78,658 votes and defeating CPI candidate E.T. Taison Master by a margin of 20,600 votes. He has been a representative of the Paravur constituency for 25 years, first winning the seat in 2001.

Political Journey of VD Satheesan

A lawyer by profession, Satheesan began his political journey through the Kerala Students Union (KSU) and later became active in the Youth Congress. Since 2021, he has served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala assembly and emerged as a prominent face of the UDF's campaign against the outgoing leftist government.
