Varun Sanyal Exits Asian Games

Indian mixed martial arts (MMA) competitor Varun Sanyal has officially withdrawn from the Asian Games taking place in Nagoya. This decision came after he experienced severe cramps and body aches while using the sauna at his accommodation on Sunday. Although medical evaluations and precautionary blood tests returned normal results, Sanyal felt unfit to engage in combat sports the following morning. After discussing his condition with his coach, he opted to withdraw for health reasons.

Suchika Tariyal Shines in MMA Debut

Sanyal, who competes in the 77kg weight class, is one of two Indian MMA fighters representing the nation at the Asian Games. His teammate, Suchika Tariyal, has made an impressive start to her campaign by winning her quarter-final match, thereby securing a medal for India. She is set to advance to the semi-finals in the women’s 60kg category. Tariyal faced Altanchimeg Baigalmaa in her quarter-final bout, where she successfully defended against Baigalmaa's aggressive attempts to turn the match around in the second round. This year marks the inaugural inclusion of MMA in the Asian Games.
